   The three Quls

   Listen

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿١﴾ ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ ﴿٢﴾ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ﴿٣﴾ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ ﴿٤﴾ بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْفَلَقِ ﴿١﴾ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ﴿٢﴾ وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ ﴿٣﴾ وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ ﴿٤﴾ وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ ﴿٥﴾ بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿١﴾ مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٢﴾ إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٣﴾ مِن شَرِّ ٱلْوَسْوَاسِ ٱلْخَنَّاسِ ﴿٤﴾ ٱلَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٥﴾ مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٦﴾

   Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent." Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak From the evil of that which He created And from the evil of darkness when it settles And from the evil of the blowers in knots And from the evil of an envier when he envies." Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind, From the evil of the retreating whisperer - Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind - From among the jinn and mankind."

   NoteCup your palms together, blow lightly into them, recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas, then wipe over as much of your body as you can, beginning with the head, the face and the front of the body. Do this three times.

2. Dhikr 2 of 18 · Once

   أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

   ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٌۭ وَلَا نَوْمٌۭ ۚ لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿٢٥٥﴾

   Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

   VirtueWhoever recites it when going to bed will have a guardian from Allah remain with him, and no devil will come near him until morning.

3. Dhikr 3 of 18 · Once

   Last two verses of Al-Baqarah

   Listen

   ءَامَنَ ٱلرَّسُولُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍۢ مِّن رُّسُلِهِۦ ۚ وَقَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ﴿٢٨٥﴾ لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا ٱكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَآ إِصْرًۭا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦ ۖ وَٱعْفُ عَنَّا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَآ ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَىٰنَا فَٱنصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ ﴿٢٨٦﴾

   The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination." Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."

   VirtueWhoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.

4. Dhikr 4 of 18 · Once

   Dhikr 4 of 18

   Listen

   بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي، وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، فَإِن أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

   Bismika rabbee wada'tu janbee wabika arfa'uh, fa-in amsakta nafsee farhamha, wa-in arsaltaha fahfathha bima tahfathu bihi 'ibadakas-saliheen.

   In Your name, my Lord, I lay my side down, and by You I raise it. If You take my soul, have mercy on it; and if You send it back, protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.

5. Dhikr 5 of 18 · Once

   Listen

   اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا، لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْياهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ العَافِيَةَ

   Allahumma innaka khalaqta nafsee wa-anta tawaffaha, laka mamatuha wamahyaha in ahyaytaha fahfathha, wa-in amattaha faghfir laha. Allahumma innee as-alukal-'afiyah.

   O Allah, You created my soul and You will take it; to You belong its death and its life. If You keep it alive, protect it; and if You cause it to die, forgive it. O Allah, I ask You for well-being.

6. Dhikr 6 of 18 · Once

   Dhikr 6 of 18

   Listen

   اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ

   Allahumma qinee 'athabaka yawma tab'athu 'ibadak.

   O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.

   NoteWhen the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to sleep, he would place his right hand under his cheek and say it.

7. Dhikr 7 of 18 · Once

   Listen

   بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

   Bismikal-lahumma amootu wa-ahya.

   In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

8. Dhikr 8 of 18 · 33 times

   Dhikr 8 of 18

   Listen

   سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ

   Subhanal-lah.

   Glory be to Allah.

   VirtueThe Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ali and Fatimah: when you go to bed, glorify Allah thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times and magnify Him thirty-four times; that is better for you than a servant.

   الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

   Alhamdu lillah.

   All praise is for Allah.

    اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

    Allahu akbar.

    Allah is the Greatest.

    اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبَّ الأَرْضِ، وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، رَبَّنَا وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى، وَمُنْزِلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ، وَالْفُرْقَانِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ. اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الأَوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الآخِرُ فَلَيسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْءٌ، وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْءٌ، اقْضِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ وَأَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْرِ

    Allahumma rabbas-samawatis-sab', warabbal-'arshil-'atheem, rabbana warabba kulli shay', faliqal-habbi wannawa, wamunazzilat-tawra, wal-injeel, walfurqan, a'oothu bika min sharri kulli shayin anta akhithun binasiyatih. Allahumma antal-awwal, falaysa qablaka shay', wa-antal-akhir, falaysa ba'daka shay', wa-antath-thahir falaysa fawqaka shay', waantal-batin, falaysa doonaka shay', iqdi 'annad-dayna wa-aghnina minal-faqr.

    O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the Mighty Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, Splitter of the grain and the date-stone, Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel and the Furqan (the Quran): I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything You hold by its forelock. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, so there is nothing above You; and You are the Hidden, so there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debt for us and enrich us against poverty.

12. Dhikr 12 of 18 · Once

    Listen

    الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا، وَكَفَانَا، وَآوَانَا، فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لاَ كَافِيَ لَهُ وَلاَ مُؤْوِيَ

    Alhamdu lillahil-lathee at'amana wasaqana, wakafana, wa-awana, fakam mimman la kafiya lahu wala mu'wee.

    All praise is for Allah, who fed us and gave us drink, who sufficed us and sheltered us; for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them.

13. Dhikr 13 of 18 · Once

    اللَّهُمَّ عَالِمَ الغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطانِ وَشِرْكِهِ، وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءاً، أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ

    Allahumma 'alimal-ghaybi washshahadah, fatiras-samawati wal-ard, rabba kulli shayin wamaleekah, ashhadu an la ilaha illa ant, a'oothu bika min sharri nafsee wamin sharrish-shaytani washirkih, wa-an aqtarifa 'ala nafsee soo-an aw ajurrahu ila muslim.

    O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of all things, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own soul, from the evil of Satan and his call to associate others with You, and from committing wrong against myself or bringing it upon another Muslim.

14. Dhikr 14 of 18 · Once

    يَقْرَأُ ﴿الم﴾ تَنْزِيلَ السَّجْدَةِ، وَ﴿تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ﴾

    Recite Surah As-Sajdah (32) and Surah Al-Mulk (67).

    Recite Surah As-Sajdah (chapter 32) and Surah Al-Mulk (chapter 67).

    NoteThe Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not sleep until he had recited Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Al-Mulk.

15. Dhikr 15 of 18 · Once

    اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ، وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ، رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ، لاَ مَلْجَأَ وَلاَ مَنْجَا مِنْكَ إِلاَّ إِلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ، وَبِنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ

    Allahumma aslamtu nafsee ilayk, wafawwadtu amree ilayk, wawajjahtu wajhee ilayk, wa-alja'tu thahree ilayk, raghbatan warahbatan ilayk, la maljaa wala manja minka illa ilayk, amantu bikitabikal-lathee anzalt, wabinabiyyikal-lathee arsalt.

    O Allah, I have submitted my soul to You, entrusted my affair to You, turned my face to You, and placed my back in Your care, in hope and in fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and in Your Prophet whom You sent.

    VirtueThe Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: when you go to bed, perform ablution as you would for prayer, lie on your right side and say it; if you die that night you die upon the natural faith. Make it the last thing you say.

16. Dhikr 16 of 18 · Once

    When turning over at night

    لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهّارُ، رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزيزُ الْغَفَّارُ

    La ilaha illal-lahul-wahidul-qahhar, rabbus-samawati wama baynahuma, al'azeezul-ghaffar.

    None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, the One, the Subduer; Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the Almighty, the Oft-Forgiving.

17. Dhikr 17 of 18 · Once

    When afraid or unsettled in sleep

    أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ، وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّياطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

    a'oothu bikalimatil-lahit-tammat min ghadabih, wa'iqabih, washarri 'ibadih, wamin hamazatish-shayateen, wa-an yahduroon.

    I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of the devils and their presence.

18. Dhikr 18 of 18 · Once

    After a bad dream

    Listen

    يَنْفُثُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلاَثاً، وَيَسْتَعِيذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا رَأَى ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ، وَلاَ يُحَدِّثُ بِهَا أَحَداً، وَيَتَحَوَّلُ عَنْ جَنْبِهِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ، وَيَقُومُ يُصَلِّي إِنْ أَرَادَ ذَلِكَ

    A'oothu billahi minash-shaytani wamin sharri ma ra'aytu.

    Blow lightly to your left three times, seek refuge in Allah from Satan and from the evil of what you saw three times, do not tell anyone about it, turn over onto your other side, and get up and pray if you wish.
