Dhikr 2 of 12 · Once
When closing the eyes of the deceased
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِفُلاَنٍ (بِاسْمِهِ) وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، وَاخْلُفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ، وَافْسَحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ، وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ
Allahummagh-fir li-name the dead- warfa' darajatahu fil-mahdiyyeen, wakhlufhu fee 'aqibihi fil-ghabireen, waghfir lana walahu ya rabbal-'alameen wafsah lahu fee qabrih, wanawwir lahu feeh.
O Allah, forgive (name of the deceased), raise his rank among the rightly guided, take care of those he has left behind, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Make his grave spacious for him and fill it with light.

In the funeral prayer
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ، وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَاراً خَيْراً مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَأَهْلاً خَيْراً مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَزَوْجاً خَيْراً مِنْ زَوْجِهِ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَأَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ
Allahummagh-fir lahu warhamh, wa'afihi, wa'fu 'anh, wa-akrim nuzulah, wawassi' mudkhalah, waghsilhu bilma-i waththalji walbarad, wanaqqihi minal-khataya kama naqqaytath-thawbal-abyada minad-danas, wa-abdilhu daran khayran min darih, wa-ahlan khayran min ahlih wazawjan khayran min zawjih, wa-adkhilhul-jannah, wa-a'ithhu min 'athabil-qabr, wa'athabin-nar
O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, grant him well-being and pardon him, honour his reception and widen his entrance, wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him a home better than his home, a family better than his family and a spouse better than his spouse; admit him into Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا، وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبيرِنَا، وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا. اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلاَمِ، وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ، اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهُ، وَلاَ تُضِلَّنَا بَعْدَهُ
Allahummagh-fir lihayyina wamayyitina washahidina, wagha-ibina, wasagheerina wakabeerina, wathakarina wa-onthana. Allahumma man ahyaytahu minna fa-ahyihi 'alal-islam, waman tawaffaytahu minna fatawaffahu 'alal-eeman, allahumma la tahrimna ajrah, wala tudillana ba'dah.
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our men and our women. O Allah, whomever of us You keep alive, keep him alive upon Islam, and whomever of us You take, take him upon faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not lead us astray after him.
Dhikr 5 of 12 · Once
In the funeral prayer
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ فُلاَنَ بْنَ فُلاَنٍ فِي ذِمَّتِكَ، وَحَبْلِ جِوَارِكَ، فَقِهِ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ، وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ، وَأَنْتَ أَهْلُ الْوَفَاءِ وَالْحَقِّ، فَاغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الغَفُورُ الرَّحيمُ
Allahumma inna -name the dead- fee thimmatik, wahabli jiwarik, faqihi min fitnatil-qabr wa'athabin-nar, wa-anta ahlul-wafa', walhaq, faghfir lahu warhamh, innaka antal-ghafoorur-raheem.
O Allah, so-and-so, son of so-and-so, is under Your protection and in the bond of Your care, so protect him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire. You are the One who fulfils promises and upholds the truth, so forgive him and have mercy on him; indeed You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.

اللَّهُمَّ عَبْدُكَ وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ احْتَاجَ إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ، وَأَنْتَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ عَذَابِهِ، إِنْ كَانَ مُحْسِناً فَزِدْ فِي حَسَنَاتِهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مُسِيئاً فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْهُ
Allahumma 'abduka wabnu amatik, ihtaja ila rahmatik, wa-anta ghaniyyun 'an 'athabih, in kana muhsinan fazid fee hasanatih, wa-in kana museean fatajawaz 'anh.
O Allah, Your servant and the son of Your maidservant is in need of Your mercy, and You have no need to punish him. If he did good, increase his good deeds, and if he did wrong, overlook his sins.

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ. اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ فَرَطاً وَذُخْراً لِوَالِدَيْهِ، وَشَفِيعاً مُجَاباً، اللَّهُمَّ ثَقِّلْ بِهِ مَوَازِينَهُمَا، وَأَعْظِمْ بِهِ أُجُورَهُمَا، وَأَلْحِقْهُ بِصَالِحِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَاجْعَلْهُ فِي كَفَالَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَقِهِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَاراً خَيْراً مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَأَهْلاً خَيْراً مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِأَسْلاَفِنَا، وَأَفْرَاطِنَا، وَمَنْ سَبَقَنَا بِالإِيمَانِ
(Allaahumma 'a'ith-hu min 'athaabil-qabri.) [or say:](Allahummaj-'alhu faratan, wathukhran liwalidayh, washafee'an mujaban. Allahumma thaqqil bihi mawazeenahuma wa-a'thim bihi ojoorahuma, wa-alhiqhu bisalihil-mu'mineen, waj'alhu fee kafalati Ibraheem, waqihi birahmatika 'athabal-jaheem, wa 'abdilhu daaran khayran min daarihi, wa 'ahlan khayran min 'ahlihi, Allaahum-maghfir li'aslaafinaa, wa afraatinaa wa man sabaqanaa bil'eemaan)
O Allah, protect him from the punishment of the grave. O Allah, make him a forerunner and a stored reward for his parents, and an intercessor whose intercession is answered. O Allah, make their scales heavy through him and increase their reward through him; join him with the righteous believers, place him in the care of Ibrahim, and protect him by Your mercy from the punishment of the Blaze. Give him a home better than his home and a family better than his family. O Allah, forgive our predecessors, our children who have passed, and those who preceded us in faith.

For a child in the funeral prayer
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطاً، وَسَلَفاً، وَأَجْراً
Allahummaj-'alhu lana farata, wasalafan wa-ajra.
O Allah, make him for us a forerunner, a predecessor and a reward.
Dhikr 9 of 12 · Once
Condolence
إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا أَخَذَ، وَلَهُ مَا أَعْطَى، وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عِنْدَهُ بِأَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى، فَلْتَصْبِرْ وَلْتَحْتَسِبْ
Inna lillahi ma akhath, walahu ma a'ta, wakullu shayin 'indahu bi-ajalin musamma…faltasbir waltahtasib.
To Allah belongs what He took and to Him belongs what He gave, and everything with Him has an appointed term; so be patient and hope for reward.

When placing the deceased in the grave
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
Bismil-lahi wa'ala sunnati rasoolil-lah.
In the name of Allah and upon the way of the Messenger of Allah.
Dhikr 11 of 12 · Once
After the burial
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْهُ
Allaahum-maghfir lahu Allaahumma thabbithu
O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, make him firm.
NoteAfter a burial the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand by the grave and say: seek forgiveness for your brother and ask that he be made firm, for he is now being questioned.Dhikr 12 of 12 · Once
Visiting the graves
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ، مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لاَحِقُونَ، وَيَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنَّا وَالْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ، أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمُ الْعَافِيَةَ
Assalamu 'alaykum ahlad-diyari minal-mu'mineena walmuslimeen, wa-inna in shaal-lahu bikum lahiqoon, nas-alul-laha lana walakumul-'afiyah.
Peace be upon you, O people of these abodes, believers and Muslims. We shall, if Allah wills, join you. May Allah have mercy on those of us who have gone ahead and those who come later. I ask Allah for well-being for us and for you.
